Up for Auction or Buy It Now! is this very clean, impressive example of a 1976 Raleigh Competition Road Racing Bicycle. The tubing is Reynolds 531, the wheelset is 700c tubular, the frame has no braze ons for racks and fenders. Suntour dropouts. The decals indicate that this bicycle originated from the Carlton shop of Nottingham, England. Unfortunately, these pictures do not do the bike justice as far as seeing how clean and preserved the frame and components are. Overall, I would easily rate the 30+ year old bicycle a 9 out of 10. All original! Except for the tires, the front of which needs repair. Specs as follows: Raleigh "Competition" circa 1976 Size: 21.5"/ 53cm Tubing: Reynolds 531 double Butted w/ fork Handlebar: Raleigh alloy Brakes: Weinmann - front/rear Crankset: Specialty T/A Criterium alloy Cogs: 14-21 Pedals: Atom 440 allloy w Christopher Cage&Straps Rims: Sprint alloy Hubs: Normandy Competition front/rear Saddle: Brooks B-17 Narrow Derailleurs: front- Huret / rear- Huret Jubilee Brake Levers: Weinmann SEE THIS LINK:http://www.sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/competition.htmlThe owner has been quite delighted with people's reaction to this bike. Local and well known framebuilder Bernie Mikkelsen chastised him for actually riding such a nice specimen, recommending he hang it on the wall. A gentleman at American Cyclery was blown away by the condition, stating that it was worth well over $1000. He also sent me this note:"Go ahead and post my Raleigh @ Ebay. I went to Montano Velo, Jason had alot of good comments about the bike but right now he's not in the position to buy it although he would just LOVE to own it considering the condition. He said maybe after Christmas but that's a bit away, he did however suggest that he's willing to display the bike at the window to sell @ the shop, no charge, but I have to make a little sign for it. It's definitely one of the nicest vintage bike he has seen as far as its condition, he thinks it should be seen in order to appreciate it. If it doesn't spark enough interest @ Ebay, then I will take him up on his offer but for the time being, let's go ahead with our plan."Note that I will take GREAT care in the packaging and shipping of this bike, so please understand my handling time and shipping charges. Of course, local pickup is a welcome option. Feel free to ask questions, thanks for looking!
